Rent a Room Allowance

Hi All,
I am separated (20 years) and my partner is living with me.
I we are often quite stretched economically, and I wonder if we could avail of your advice.

Do you think it would be possible for us to claim the Rent-A-Room allowance for her? It might mean we could save some tax.

I know its a bit iffy, but we are broke.
Any suggestions?

I don't get you. Do you mean is it possible for your partner to say she's paying you rent via the rent a room scheme ? She would then claim the rent tax return from the revenue ? Its about €240 per annum which is not a lot and depending on how long she lives with you she would normally be regarded as your common law partner. I'm not sure if this is breaking any rule however I'm sure the ethics is questionable.
