Recourse options for internet purchase

Hi All,

Quick piece of advice needed:
I purchased an item from UK website (reputable site & good bit of money).
The item arrived and I found it to be unusable & when inspected by a highly qualified person, they said it was terrible quality to the point where they suspected it was a hybrid and definately not sold as advertised.
I got in touch with the website and have had brutal customer service since- two responses over 2-3months trying to get this thing back to them and explaining my case. I am requesting a refund also.

I am not confident about the company resolving this to my satisfaction, or at all. What are the next steps I could take, what processes does this fall under? UK Consumer rights? Irish consumer rights? paid for by Credit Card, is there any cover in that? I had a look at the UK small claims but I understand you have to be physically in the UK to start a claim?

Advise welcome on how to resolve this one (no more internet buys for me)

Thanking you in advance :)
