Re-Entering Public Service & Effect On Pension Benefits

My partner has previously worked in the health service and clocked up 10 years service.She is 40 years old. She worked roughly from 1994-2004. She is a "pre-1995" person so she can retire at 60, and does not have a state contributory pension. She now wants to start working again for HSE. Is her previous pension "ring fenced", or is her previous service now under the terms of the new single public service scheme where she has to work to 68 and part of her pension is from the state contributory pension? Basically, does anyone know how "re-entry" to the public service works pension wise, for people who are "pre-1995". Thank you in advance.

She can no longer retire at 60 as she wouldn't be considered a pre 1995 anymore.

Whether she can be considered a pre 2004 depends on;

When was she offered the job?

When did she accept the job?

If it was before Jan 2013, she will be considered a pre 2004.

I wouldn't be able to answer how her old service would be considered.

Thank you becky. She has not been offerred the job yet. So basically, if she took it, she has to work to 68 instead of 60, and it is unclear if her accumulated benefits from past service are ringfenced or come in under the new regime?

In a nutshell, yes.
