If a public/civil servant is due to retire and say receive an annual pension of say 20,000 per year.

Is this pension then subject to income tax @ 20%, USC etc.

Or is the 20,000 tax free ?

If you are getting a Public Service pension then you should also be getting a tax-free lump sum.
All income, including pension income, is potentially taxable, but if you only income is €20,000 then it could be below the PAYE threshold and thus perhaps not subject to Income Tax ( but liable to USC).
