Hi All,

Hope everyone's doing well!

I had attended HSE Interview and received an e-mail about 3 months back informing me that I had been successful at interview and been placed on a panel - awarded place Number 2.

The role was Grade VII Senior Business Intelligence Analyst in HSE.

I was just wondering placing number 2 in panel get me a Job offer or should I consider I have lost this job and start applying for the other jobs? I was told the panel lasts one year.
I am just curious because I heard that, The higher the grade there will be very few opening coming up in a year or none at all.

I'd appreciate any advice on how good my chances are?

Thanks in advance for helping me understand and very sorry for this newbie question. I am new to this panel system.

It depends on how many vacant positions there are.

If you contact them, I'm sure they will tell you whether you have a chance of being placed or not.

You could ask how many are on the panel. It would generally be of a size needed to meet anticipated requirements e.g. if only one new job is anticipated over the year, they’re unlikely to create a panel of 10. Equally, if a lot of jobs were likely, a panel of 10 might not be big enough.

You’re correct that more senior roles are likely to be less in number than the more junior roles so the potential for getting called is less.

That said, a number 2 placing is very high so unless they intend filling only one vacancy, you should get the nod. From the job title, it doesn’t sound so specialist that they would only ever need just one.

I’d agree that you should ask whether any other positions may potentially arise. They won’t give you any guarantees though.

My guess is that you applied perhaps for something in the area of eHealth, which is a growing area. I reckon you will be made a job offer for sure. The HSE is notoriously slow & it could be months later before you hear from them. If you are a private sector worker (like I was) I hope you are ready for the utterly different mindset that exists in HSE. Seniority (as in years service) trumps all else & is fully backed by unions.
