Hi . Snowy B you have given me invaluable information over the years regarding my own and parents health insurance. So would like to check with you again if you don't mind. My mum is 85 and her insurance is due for renewal on May 1st. She currently has Laya Simplicity . I am neither looking to upgrade or downgrade, but looking for the best value for money in your opinion. Mum has a medical card but may possibly lose it at any stage. She has no major health issues and lives in Dublin so would like private/ specialist hosp included although private rooms in those hospitals are not a requirement.

Your opinion would be gratefully appreciated.

Meath Lady,

For older persons in general, the following 3 Laya plans are best value, due to the max private hospital excess for admissions.
This means there is a cap on the excess payable if admitted for surgery or a stay in a private hospital, regardless of the total number of admissions per year.
1. Simply Connect; price 1179pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech hospital excess 150 x 2 max per year - regardless of the total amount of admissions overall. Day case excess 50 per procedure. Good day to day cover included, 50% refund for consultant visits, physio, dental, gp etc. Max day to day expenses refund is 500( 50% of 1000).

2. Simply Connect Plus; price 1250pa; same cover as Simply Connect. 2 differences include max excess in private/hi-tech hospitals 150 x 1 per
year, regardless of the total number of admissions. Day to day cover as before, max refund 1000( 50% of 2000).

3. Simplicity; price 1191pa; Hospital cover similar to previous 2 plans, difference relates to max private/hi-tech excess 100 x 2 per year - regardless of the number of admissions. Also this plan fully covers a private room in a private hospital. Day to day expenses covered, difference is the first 100 not allowed.

The above 3 plans fully cover hip and knee replacement surgery in all private hospitals and cataract surgery, with no co payment required.

Thanks Snowy B. I will probably stick with Simplicity so as they are all pretty much the same and no major price variation. i appreciate your response. Many thanks
