No Claims Bonus

A family member had an accident approximately 7 years ago. The person he hit claimed off his insurance (it was his fault). Since then he has gained six years no claims bonus. As I am shopping around for insurance for him, is he (a) considered as having a full no claims bonus (b) does the insurance companies need to know he had an accident 7 years ago or does the claim be written off the system after a certain length of time.

Most companies will just ask if you had any accidents, claims or convictions on the last 5 years, so no you would not have to disclose the accident. (It wouldn't make any difference even if you do).

AFAIK, most insurance companies build up the No Claims Bonus over 4/5 years (depending on the company) so with each year of accident free motoring you get 20%, 40%....100% of the NCB reduction

Therefore an accident 7 years ago will no longer be relevent
