Is there a will?

I am trying to sort out the affairs of a recently deceased relative and I need to know if there was a will made. I have not come across any copy and I don't know who her solicitor was, but she said a few years ago that she planned to go ahead and have one drawn up, so one may well exist.

Do I need to take on a solicitor to check this for me?

Thanks!

No - you can do it yourself.

As I understand it there is no central registration office for wills in Ireland, so in the absence of a copy of the will or the name of the deceaseds solicitor, a will executor or a witness to the will, where would I start?

Ring around the local solicitors or better still, write as a starting point.

Thanks Vanilla!

There's a pretty long list of solicitors in her city but I gotta start somewhere :)

Alternatively you could put an advert into the wills section of the Law Society Gazette.

Thanks a lot Vanilla, I checked it out and I'm going to place an ad in the next edition.
