My son had an accident..

He has been on illness benefit for a year..he will return to work in the new year.

Will his year on illness benefit count towards his contributory pension ? I find social welfare confusing. I worked all my life so I just accepted my own pension with no attention to details.

He will receive a credited contribution for each week he was on illness benefit.

Under the current pension rules, these credits will count towards a pension, provided he has the required minimum of paid contributions (currently 10 years - 520 contributions).
