Money stuck

Hi,

I was working with a contractor to re design my house. I had paid the contractor in advance some amount to buy materials, but unfortunately the contractor had a sudden death.

That person was working in the individual capacity and now I am not sure how to get my money back. I am trying to reach Contractor's family but I am not getting any reply back.

Is this money lost or is there a way to re-claim this money?

I'd say if you have no success from their family, you will have to lodge a claim from their estate.

Should be easy enough. Put your case in writing to their next of kin. Give all details to your solicitor and push button to Go. If no joy from the relations, all your costs will be paid from their estate, (depending that there's money to distribute)

Was the sudden death recent? If so you might get a better response if you give the family some time to come to terms with it before trying to contact them again.
