Healthcare costs - not insurance How much is paracetamol in your chemist ?

When we are talking about the price of paracetamol, even if it is X% higher than in the UK, that does not mean much if people are buying a couple of packets now and again just to have in case of emergency.

I wonder if there are many people here who are actually affected by these prices beyond a couple of euro a year.
Probably not, I think I will save maybe a tenner a year in the future by not buying paracetamol in my local pharmacy.
But when that same principle of looking for the best value is applied to all purchases, the amount saved will probably be thousands annually.

It is not just paracetamol though. It is the price of almost all OTC medicines, including things like allergy tablets, indigestion remedies, cold sore creams.

Think of paracetamol as the equivalent of the Big Mac index.
Very good point - a lot of people get eye drops, antihistamines, etc. over the counter.

I'd suggest the Brufen Barometer or the Gaviscon Gauge :p

The differential with UK is very stark for pharmaceuticals compared to any other product though and has been since I’ve been paying attention (about 20 years).

I’ve never seen a good reason why.
