Hi all, my son is taking a career break and going to Canada for 1 year, his health insurance in Ireland wont cover him in Canada. Although he is very healthy, does anyone know if there is any kind of Travel or Health Insurance he can take out in Ireland which will cover him in the event of him requiring hospitalization in Canada.

Thanks in advance.

https://www.backpackertravelinsurance.ie/travel-insurance-canada.asp is what my sons used. If he has a two year work visa, I would recommend he takes out the 2 year insurance package, even if at this stage he only plans to go for one year. A few of my sons mates did not take out the 2 years and their passports on the way into Canada were stamped and they were restricted to one year regardless of the 2 year visa. Some of them wanted to stay at the end of their first year but had to come home.

As a lot of young people going to Canada like to go snowboarding make sure that their insurance covers them for this as it can be quite specific cover and most of the ordinary policies will not cover them. Canada is as expensive for hospital treatment as America too.
