Hi,

I got a new credit card with kbc last April. The very first transaction was the 30e gov levy. (Bad timing I know). I also have a credit card with Boi which I also paid the 30e levy back in april All fair enough but now I want to cancel my BOI credit card and they are looking for another 30e levy. So with kbc you prepay levy and BOI you pay after period. Does that sound right? I basically want to cancel card without paying the levy. Can I just cut card up and tell them freeze card. Balance is zero.

I'm sure there is small print regarding admin fees. They never seem to lose.

The stamp duty on credit cards is paid for the year already gone. The tax year for credit cards is from 2nd April to 1st April.
Did you get the KBC card before April?
Whether you cancel the KBC card now, or just cut it up, there will be another €30 due for the period from April 1st 2016. The balance might be zero now, but come next April the tax will be automatically deducted.
