Giving a tenant in rent a room scheme notice

Hi,

I rent a room in my house under the rent a room scheme. I am planning on asking my tennant to move out and just want to check do they have any entitlements or anything like that or is it just a matter of giving them a specific notice period. We have no written agreements in place and they've been living with me for just over a year now but the person in question is one who may get awkward and I need to know where I stand.

To be safe you should give them one months notice in writing which notice contains the address of the property, their name and address and the date you are giving it to them and the date on which they are to quit the property. Keep a photocopy- if possible ask them to sign a receipt for the notice- you can hand deliver it to them.
