Hi,
Automatically got a debit card with my FA Regular Savings a/c - will this be liable to the gov tax on cards?

Yes once you use the card in two ways:-

€2.50 per year per ATM card (also known as cash card)
€2.50 per year per debit (Laser) card
€5 per combined (ATM & debit) card

If you never use it you will not be charged.

Just transfer the money online to another bank account where you already have a card. saves you a huge €2.50 :) (or €5 if used as combined).

fa gave you a debit card on a savings account? how come i didn't get one? i don't see anything on their website about giving out debit cards on savings accounts.

Yep I got one too when I opened my account but have never used it and have never been charged for it.

With the eSavings Account you don't get one but with the Instant Access Savings Account or the Regular Saver Account you get an ATM card.

Am I correct in believing that early April would be a good time to activate your card, thereby getting a full year for your duty?
