Hi,
My elderly Mother, 85 is paying nearly 3k on VHI Plan C. Is there another Plan either with VHI insurer that is better value? VHI PM 42 15 looks very similar with differences being like 80% rather than 90% on certain procedures. She is Galway based so would use those hospitals.
She has had continuous cover for many years.
As she recently moved into a nursing home, and may stay there, we need to find savings where we can for her.

sadie,

While VHI plan PMI 42 15 is a very good plan, for orthopaedic cover in Galway private hospitals there would be a shortfall of potentially a few thousand. To avoid these shortfalls, you could have orthopaedic surgery in Mater Private or Blackrock Clinic, Dublin with no shortfalls which is not suitable for her in the circumstances.

There are much better options with Laya Healthcare, well worth considering, details as follows;
1. Total Health Select; price 1837pa; identical hospital cover as before, no excess payable on admission, excellent day to day cover also included,
no age related waiting times with Laya.

2. Simplicity Plan; price 1087pa; identical hospital cover as before - but with a maximum excess 100 x 2 per year, regardless of the number of admissions, day case excess 50 per visit. Excess amount only applies to a private or hi-tech hospital, no excess applies to any public hospitals.
Good day to day cover on this plan, the first 100 not allowed.

Note; VHI have no alternative cheaper option that covers a private room in a private hospital.
