my wife has recently commenced an avc with cornmarket in the sum of 100 euros per month. noticed her fees are 865 euros start up commission fees, 5% per transaction and annual charge of 1.35%.

would you consider these fees extreme or normal and is there any other way of boosting pension as she will be short years on retirement age?

thanks in advance for any information

Re: avc

Those charges are on the high side given that it's possible to get PRSAs or personal pension plans that charge nothing up front (or maybe a couple of hundred to a discount, execution only broker), nothing on each contribution and an annual management fee of c. 1%. Check out previous discussions about Cornmarket, their cornering of (part of?) the teacher's pension market and their arguably high charges.
