Continuous start date

HI all,
Can anyone advise me on the legality of having a continuous start date on a contract? For example - a person gets a new contract under the same company. This new contract contains both the start date (for the new contract to commence), and a ''continuous start date'', which is dated from the first day of their old contract ---- what are their entitlements when it comes to redundancy? Are they entitled to redundancy for the time worked under both contracts, or just the new one?
Thanks

Your redundancy entitlements would run from the first date of your employment (the first contract).
