Claiming rent allowance

Hi,

I am about to claim Jobseeker's Allowance. I was receiving Jobseeker's Benefit a year and a half ago but stoped when it ran out and I started working for myself instead (earning very little).

My sister's boyfriend just built a new house which he and my sister will live in (its in his name) and I will be paying rent for one of the rooms from next week on.

1. Will there be any problems claiming rent allowance (about 40/50 euro a week)?
2. As the rent would only be 2,600 per year (which would be under the rent-a-room allowance), could it possibly affect my sister's boyfriend's tax. (he is a PAYE worker)?

Thanks for any help/advice.

Make the application for Rent Supplement at your local Health Centre (Community Welfare Officer) - you should have made your claim for Jobseeker's Allowance before you apply for Rent Supplement.
