Motor Claim on Open Insurance Policy

Just a quick question and if anyone can shed some light on it. If I have a comprehensive open insurance policy with named drivers and one of these drivers crashes while drunk (driving with permission), writing off the car, will my insurance cover the cost of my car, even though it was the drivers fault?

So hang on, you willingly allowed a person you knew to be over the limit to drive your car?

I believe the answer is yes, unless the driver has his own policy ,when the insurance company might seek to cover its costs from that policy.

Read the terms and conditions. Many insurers now explicitly exclude damage to the vehicle if the driver is over the legal limit.

One also will refuse to deal with TP claim, but under terms of Road Traffic Act must do so, so will use the terms and conditions to have you repay whatever they pay out.

VANDRIVER: Drivers own policy does NOT cover damage to any vehicle he is driving under Driving Other Cars extension
