I was reading on the central bank website about the data that will be held by the Central Bank regarding the much-delayed Central Credit Register starting 30 June 2017. This information is stored by the Central Bank, but access to your information will be given to potentially hundreds of staff across all financial institutions including credit unions.

As I understand it, under the legislation this information will not be shared with say Revenue for example but then legislation can change.. Access would be 'restricted' to certain staff.

Financial institutions can check register and update it for all loans above €500. Its not just for new loans from this date,, it is for all current loans ongoing (a car loan taken out two years ago will appear on the register) for example, which I suppose makes sense.

But my concern is that it seems to me like a lot of personal information that alot of people would have access to.

Would anyone have any thoughts on perhaps the benefit of the register?
