Carer Benefit for a friend - qualifying question

Hi everyone,
my wife (a carer for 7 years) who is currently not working since may this year was approached by her friend to be his carer. He is terminal with lung cancer.
He has asked her to fill out a form with him and thinks that it is a means tested payment.
I am working and earning say close to 100k pa with bonus inc, does this mean my wife wouldn't be entitled to pay or be allowed to care for her friend?
Would this effect his application for a carer to mind him?
 
If your wife is not working, she would not be able to apply for Carer's Benefit (generally paid to persons taking a break from a job to provide care).

As Protocol said, Carer's Allowance is means tested and your income will be taken into account.

Applications for carer's allowance are made by the person caring, not the person being cared for, so I'm unsure what application the caree is making?
