Just looking for thoughts on the following. We are wondering whether we would be better off buying a second home in ireland or spain. Basically the "plan" is to relocate for 6months of the year to spain starting in about 4-5 years time. We would take a long term let for the 6mths in spain. One plan is to purchase a small 2-bed house in Ireland that would be our residence for our 6mths spent in Ireland and empty for the rest of the year. We would be renting out our current family home as a means of generating income. The other "plan" is to buy a small 2bed in Spain and not have any rent to pay for the 6mths in Spain and rent somewhere for the 6 mths in Ireland. We would be a cash buyer on the residence purchase in either Spain or Ireland so no mortgage involved. Our house that we would be renting out would be mortgage free also. Just wondering what pitfalls on either option we might be missing or just peoples opinions generally.

I would not recommend purchasing a house in Spain in the current climate particularly in a tourist zone. They are very hard to re-sell. If you are spending 6 months out of the main holiday season you should be able to pick up a 6 month rental for very little in Spain.

Thank you for that. Would u think purchasing a property in Ireland at the moment wit savings therefore would be a good idea .
