The young lad is 25 next April and currently drives a 1.2L car.
We want to look at buying a second car for the son in law and my preference is to give him the 1.2L as it's just for to from work and get a replacement car for the young lad:
I have a 1998 2.0L which I am told, (via pub/dinner party/gossip) he won't be able to get cover because he is < than 25

Before I start researching this tomorrow I would welcome any prior knowledge / experiences /how to approach it.
Thanks as always

Not sure about the engine size, but the 1998 bit might be more of a problem. Insurance companies are not keen on older cars.

JohnJay is right. The year will knock a lot of insurers out.

Combine it with the engine size and the profile of the driver and you may have a tougher time.

Making an assumption we are talking about a 2 litre petrol Passat, a 24 year old with a full licence and no bonus, living in dublin 14, you'd be looking towards the 4000 mark.
