I understand 2:1 share splits and 3:1 splits etc but what is a 1:1 share split?

I have shares in a German Company and Reuters says that on the 20/10/2008 there was a 1:1 share split.

Or is this an American term for 2:1 split ?

A 1:1 share split means that if you held 100 shares, they will give you another 100 and you will own 200.

A 3:1 share split, means that if you held 100 shares, they will give you another 300, so you will end up with 400.

Thanks! I was never notified of this by the company in any shape or form.

Thats some good news.

While it may be good news usually when shares are split the market value will reflect this and in your case the price may have been halved but, at least in the past, the price tended to increase.
