I am thinking of buying a secondhand car for under 20,000. My preferences are for the following:
1.9L TDI Volkswagen Passat
2.0L 320D BMW
1.9L Audi A4 diesel
Firstly, members comments.
I would appreciate members above comments relating to the above cars in terms of value, reliability, fuel consumption, parts, servicing costs and other issues relating to the above 3 cars.
Secondly, costs outside of purchase price.
Based on a no claims bonus of 8 years could, age 34, no accidents could i get an indication of insurance/year and for the tax/year. I will of course check this out too with the insurance companies. I also believe CO2 emissions will affect tax from July 2008, but does this only apply to new cars only, from reading previous threads.
Thirdly, other model recommendations.
Appreciate members comments regarding other model recommendations clearly stating their experiences with these models etc.
Fourtly, buyers market.
I've been told its a buyers market in terms of buying a secondhand car. I would appreciate members views regarding knocking down the pruchase price by haggling. Whats the best way to do this. Does it work. Is it possible to get extras thrown in as well as a full tank of fuel...any comments appreciated.
Fiftly, private or form a reliable garage.
Buying privately and getting the car checked over by a mechanic or,
Buying from a dealer like Volkwagen,Audi,BMW etc or,
Buying from a car salesman that specialises in various car models giving a one year warrenty...any comments appreciated.
