Solicitor fees - is this too much?

I applied for a loan of 35K for home improvements, and because I didn't have a solicitor that I knew of, my financial advisor got a solicitor they recommended to ring me.
Anyway my loan has now been approved from the same mortgage company that I have my mortgage with. So the solicitor rang me to ask me to come in and sign for the new loan, I asked the solicitor what their fee was and they said €1,100. That seems like an awful lot for that amount of a loan - any advice?
Also do you think I really need a solicitor in the first place when the loan is still with the existing mortgage company PTSB that I have been with for years?
Thanks for any advice.

I thought this was the appropriate forum considering it is a mortgage loan that I am on about?

Is it a top up or a re-mortgage.

Top ups generally don't require you to engage a solicitor. If it is a re-mortgage then you will need a solicitor to regsiter the charge against your home and certify the title of the property.

Is €1,100 the total cost inclusive of VAT and outlay?

Bit more info required.
