Hi,

Can anyone recommend an Irish solicitor to assist with the legal side of things for purchasing overseas (Poland-Eastern Europe).

Alot of UK based ones are around but I would prefer to deal one based in Ireland.

Thanks,
Cormac

Hi Cormac,

I was at the 'House Hunters in the Sun' Exhibition at the RDS over the weekend and got to chat to the solocitor Tom McGrath, about whom I had already read an article in the Indo a couple of weeks ago. I can't find a link to that article at the moment, but here's a mention in the [broken link removed].

[broken link removed], Irish based, have English speaking associates in a number of countries including Poland and he himself was very knowledgeable with regard to overseas purchases.

There were some other legal firms at the exhibition, but they were all UK based. I also found the financing, tax and general information imparted at the seminars very useful.

Cormac,

I was at the property exhibition at Citywest a few weeks back and spoke to a girl representing a Dublin based overseas solicitors "Overseas Property Law"

Website www.overseaspropertylaw.com
Tel 01 8726910

It might be worthwhile giving them a shout a see what they can offer. If you have any luck with an overseas solicitor perhaps you can post back?

I presume that the above-mentioned businesses are of the highest integrity but if I was considering an investment in overseas property I would avoid like the plague any outfit that specialise heavily in overseas property transactions - simply because this specialisation means that they have a vested interest in persuading clients to buy abroad and their business will suffer if there is a general decline in the volumes of people buying property abroad. Most general practice solicitors will not have this conflict of interest and they will have other sources of work to generate business if their clients don't go ahead with property acquisitions.

I would also have a general (but probably totally unfounded) suspicion that a solicitor who would choose to market themselves at an overseas property exhibition might be in the pockets of developers or property selling agents.

Ubiquitous,
I've no idea as to how good, professional or impartial the crowd I listed above are. I just posted the contact details I received without any suggestion as to how good they are.

The brochure I received and my discussions with their rep led me to believe that they don't sell or promote property themselves but provide a conveyancy/legal/tax service.

COnti Financial Servcies are based in the UK. They are overseas mortgage brokers. They have an indpendent npanel of solicitors they could possible recomend one to you.
