Any idea of the approximate costs of rebuilding a block wall in my back garden? Its approx 20 feet long x 5 feet high - I also want to factor in demolition and removal of the existing wall which is in poor condition. Im in D7. There is rear access to the property if thats relevant.

My neighbour is talking about doing it ourselves - Im hoping to get competitive quotes that would make it easier to justify the wall being built by someone who knows what they are doing!

Tks

Say 1 day to remove the old wall and dispose of it dig and lay new foundation and 1 day to rebuild wall.

1 labourer @ 2 days €200

1 brickie (proper brickie not some yahoo who says he's a brickie) @ 2 days €400

Total €600 but it could be more

I've seen some very poor work done over the last while by 'brickies' and I have seen some wonderful work by brickies, the guy who did my garden wall was a brickie and it as solid as a rock

Forget theses days, S.L.F. , when there was 200/day. 100 solids is 2 days = 50/day ? 4 EUR/solid ? Even at the boom it was 1 EUR/solid cash.

To make the same wages today, you have to switch yourself into higher gear and move faster (or longer hours)

Thanks...we're meeting some lads over the next few days - will let you know how things pan out

I would consider myself a proper brickie, (Time served since 1984) and any so called brickie who reckons he can charge 2 days labour for laying 98 blocks is some shister.
A proper brickie me self included and I gave doing it full time a long time ago, would lay 98 blocks on a straight garden wall in a morning with a labouror or in a day on his own.
This celtic tiger has ruined this country and some of its citizens
