hi just wondered if anyone had any advice for me.

Ive recently bought my house off Dublin Dorporation. We filled in all the forms prior to the closing of the sale stating that my husband has type 2 diabetes (non insulin dependant) on the form for the mortgage protection insurance . There appeared to be no problem with this initially and we were sent information about our repayments which included mortgage protection.

We signed up for the loan off the Corporation and then 2 weeks later they rang my husband and said sorry you will have to get your own mortgage protection as the company we use have refused it.

I said to them i thought it was mandatory for us to have this and they said the sale shouldnt have went through it was there error but quite litterally our problem.

Now we cant seem to find an insurance company to give us it.

This is a major worry for us as my husband is the only one working as im a full time carer for our 18 yr old who is mentally and phisically disabled.

Ive written to the ombudsman about the corporation's actions and I'm awaiting a reply.

Really do not know what we can do.

Ring the Affordable Housing Section in the Dept of the Environment, they might be able to give you some advice. The switch number is 888 2000.

I can recommend using Eamon Griffin from ERM financial services as a broker. They are also recommended by the diabetes federation of Ireland.
I am a type 1 diabetic and they sorted out my mortgage protection for me.

please don't use bold type for your entire post. It makes it very difficult to read.

Hi angie, and welcome to AAM.

Ive reformatted your question and will change the title to more fully reflect your question.

Have you actually got your mortgage? and if so what is the problem? Very many diabetics get a waiver from their mortgage providers. If you want life assurance for peace of mind then you could contact the broker mentioned above. www.ermfinancialservices.ie
