Have found a really interesting property in Amelie les Bains - am travelling out there on Friday, but am just wondering if anyone has been there and knows anything about the area?

It appears to have a summer and winter season - the property would be partially for personal use and for rental.

Thanks.

Hi Delgirl.

Amelie les Bains is a centre for thermal cures and as such is popular all year round. It is close to ski for winter and coast for summer and would have a year round demand for rentals. Hope this is of some help!

It's somewhat unkindly described here as 'a rather stodgy health spa for the elderly and rheumatic, and [...] hardly worth a stop'. But the surrounding region is wonderful. Have you had a look at Céret, a few miles away? I saw one of their corridas once and, while it's not Pamplona — nor bull-running particularly my kind of 'scene'! :D — the town itself is really charming...

Oh dear! Thanks Dr M, I had done a bit of Googling and hadn't come up with anything negative.

Have also checked various holiday rental websites for Amelie and both villas and apartments appear to be well booked for summer and winter.

There is of course no substitution for seeing for one's self! Have an appointment to view a property there next Tuesday - so will be on the lookout for any hint of 'stodgyness'! ;)

I find that france-for-visitors.com website pretty stodgy, myself — I wouldn't be put off by it!

I'll tune into RTÉ while you're gone and do the same... ;)

Let me know if you want a contact for buying this area and should you decide to buy I also have contacts for a bi-lingual Notaire!
I've got the bi-lingual notaire, surveyor etc. all lined up! I've done so much research on this that I'm driving my husband mad with all the information! But thanks anyway!

Hi DecB

I hope you don't mind - I'm answering your PM here as I can't post links in a PM and am just heading out to the airport and don't have time to get an e-mail address from you ..

Here's a list of English speaking notaires in Languedoc.

Here's the contact details for the surveyors.
