Electric stair lifts help!!!

I am wondering if any of you good people know anything or could guide me in the direction of information about electric stair lifts.
My Mum lives alone and suffers seriously from heart failure and out of control diabetes which she can go into a hypo at any time which is what happened last week but luckily I called in and found her lying half way down the stairs having broken her hip.
She is now in hospital recovering from surgery and while she is there I want to try and get her council house fitted with a stair lift, I plan to purchase a second hand one and do it myself as I am quite confident that I can with the right information and of course the right stair lift but our budget it is quite low as I am also out of work.
The lift needs to be left hand side and needs to turn right after about eight feet and the go up for another eight feet..
Are the tracks on most of the lifts adjustable or would i have to try and find a secondhand one that fits exactly to the same sort of stairs???
Also where would be the best place to start looking for such a stair lift???
Sorry for the big long thread but I really would appreciate some help on this..

Sorry to hear about your Mum. I have gone through the stairlift process with Dublin City Council for my relative. It took a few months, but it really was brilliant when installed. I forget exactly how much we paid (council footed most of cost), but I will try and root out the documentation. You certainly don't have to pay it all yourself.

I got 3 quotes Stannah Stairlifts Dublin 12 www.stannah.ie €6,300 net

Ableplus Dublin 7 www.ableplus.ie €6,300 net

O'Connor Carroll Dublin 12 www.oconnorcarroll.ie €5,400 net

VAT is 13.5% but you get this back.

From memory, the council want 3 quotes. We went with O'Connor Carroll as they were nicer and the Council liked the price!

The installer will also supply and fit a new electrical socket in the hall for the lift.

I don't know if you will source a secondhand one or if there is a health and safety aspect to that. The occupational therapist in hospital will assess your Mum's need for one (a formality) and the house's suitability for a stairlift and her ability to reside there. When my relative passed away, none of the installers wanted the stairlift back (health and safety) as they install new only, one guy took it for parts.

The social worker assigned to your Mum in hospital will be able to help you with the application process.

A fall down the stairs is very serious. Are you sure that even with a stairlift your Mum can live safely and comfortably at home? Does she have an alarm pendant around your neck?

Also, when an elderly person falls and breaks a hip, it has a long-term effect on mobility, general health and confidence.

Thank you so much for your information and the time you spent putting it together, I already have contacted a lady as regards panic alarm button but she say's they haven't received any of the forms that are needed to apply for it but she will contact me when she gets them.. They haven't had any of these forms since well before Christmas she told me.. Now there is a big list of people waiting for them...
I have rang the public health Nurse now as well on your advice but for some reason I'm not holding up any hope of getting this done by the time she gets out of hospital with all this red tape.
She does live alone and is in a council house and has never asked for anything like this before.
Do you know what office I need to contact?? She is living in the southside of Cork city???

Hi,

I looked up the Cork City Council website. Phone City Hall 021 4924 243 about the Disabled Person's Grant re the stairlift.

Don't forget the social worker (no stigma involved, everyone in hospital has one) in the hospital can help you too.

Thank you so much, rang them and left a message so fingers crossed... although I don't think she'll be out for a long time now, just got a call from the hospital to say she fell again in the nurse care....
