Anyone know if Karl Jeacles mortgage calculator is working ok or if I just cant use it.

I am trying to key in various prepayment/extra payment options but it does not seem to be registering.

Are there any other online calculators I can use.

I am with NIB and dont see how they have calculated my figures, so am trying to work it out.
 
The calculator works fine for me. Could be a Java or browser issue at your end. Can you try another browser?

What exactly happens/goes wrong? What browser do you use? What version of Java?
Just keep in mind that this is a US site so Tax Relief as Source isn't anything you can work out on this site.

Karl's calculator doesn't deal with this either but it's easy to work it out and apply it separately.
 
I ran into the same problem only yesterday. I figured out (after a while :eek: ) that you need to enter the month that the prepayment starts (or the month it applies when entering once off payments) and it should register. Otherwise you won't see anything happen.

The link that General Zod gave for the older version does seem to work.

I think I have been underpaying my mortgage for the past year (great) and I want to work out the term!
 
Maybe I am having a DOH moment, but I can't get the prepayment section to take any entries or dates.

I paid an extra payment but told them to keep the repayments at the level of the original mortgage, so I could reduce the term.

They seem to have lodged the additional amount, which has come off the capital, but now I still have 24 years to pay on the reduced amount.

If I use the link General Zod gave, as soon as you key in the extra payment, it alters the figures in the second half of the file, while I cant get the second one to register any figures.

You mean you simply cannot enter the data at all or else the changes don't take effect? If it's the latter then make sure to click the Prepayment Data button after entering the details (e.g. prepayment amount, starting month etc.) and that should update things.

So you have been overpaying and not underpaying the mortgage as you originally said above?!

Did you get written agreement of how you wanted the lump sum capital repayment dealt with?
 
No, definitely something wrong with that, not registering any data.

No when I go into the NIB website, €170K over 25 years works out about €944 per month, yet my DD is currently €903.00.

Thats why I want to try various options on the calculator to see what I need to be paying to bring down term.

Does €944 take account of the correct mortgage interest relief? Maybe the figures from the calculator are just indicative?
 
The calculator seems to work ok when I key in the figures on the American one, but it wont let you enter any of the second part of the fields (prepayment data, etc) on the Irish one.

One thing for it, will have to ring NIB, to get the full story.

If you take into account tax relief then the figures are worse. NIB's LTV calculator shows up for €170K you should be paying about €944. Not sure if this is Net after tax relief. Yet I am only paying €903 and getting a refund of €50 back for the TRS.

Anyway, will ring and see what they say, I do not find their Customer Service great, phoned online banking last night when i discovered this, but told to ring branch so will do.

For what it's worth when viewing the Irish one try pressing Ctrl+F5 to force a page refresh and see if that helps. Or got to Start > Control Panel > Java > General > Temporary Internet Files > Settings... > Delete Files and then reload the page in case something is wrong with the cached version of the applet.
 
Karl Jeacle sent me this by email in case it's of any relevance/help:
I think what's happening here is that the old calculator allowed
you to just enter a monthly prepayment without entering a month
number - there was a default start month of zero. The new calculator
gets rid of month zero and uses month numbers from 1 on, and you
have to enter a month number.

People are entering a prepayment in the old calculator, and it just
works. Doing the same in the new calculator does nothing, because
you have to enter a corresponding month number.

I've updated the instructions page in case anyone reads it.

I didn't want to keep the old calculator online for long (as it
just confuses things) but it seems there a number of people out
there with older browsers (8% last month) who continue to use it.
