DC Contributions to Match a DB

Think myself 30% is extremely high. In the past a basic non escalating DB pension without spousal benefits was costing employers in the region of 16% of salary.

Lender says I activated my mortgage protection too early - options?

One of the pillar banks waived the requirement for mortgage protection for me as I was over 50 so it is not a legal requirement. I had to sign a waiver to avail of it.

    Divorce advice

Seems to me that your ex will ultimately decide whether he accepts to take ownership of the other house as part of the settlement or he prefers to hold out for the second option that you and children stay in family home until youngest finishes education and both houses sold in future. Otherwise...

    Pension Increase CPI

Deferred DB pensions typically limit the max annual increase to the CPI or 4% whichever is less. For my deferred DB pension the annual benefit statement for 2023 is dated for Apr 2024 but only published on the Mercer online portal in Dec 2024.

Underfloor Heating controller beeping all night

My underfloor heating system controller is beeping and keeping me awake at night. I do not know the manufacturer (doesn't seem to be marked on it) but the apartment manual states it's a COSY unit. I cant find a manual either in the apartment or online. The unit displays error code trF u206. The...

Insurer offering to match or close gap on competing quote?

Try getting a quote with Allianz as a new customer on their website. I found this was 10-15% cheaper than the renewal offer they sent.

Plan to retire in 7 years, is it feasible?

Agree but you could always downsize to a €400K two bed apartment and free up enough cash to keep you going for 10 years

    Voluntary PRSI contributions

Yes as I understand it As I understand it they would not be entitled to credits as to gain credits you have to be on Jobseekers (i.e. have worked before you went on JSB).

    Voluntary PRSI contributions

You'd only have to pretend for 9 months as presumably you would not qualify for Job Seekers allowance which is means tested but could still continue to sign on just for credits. See below from the key post:

    Voluntary PRSI contributions

Just sign on for Job Seekers Benefit when you stop working which will give you 9 months of credits and then continue to sign on for credits once that period expires. Won't cost you anything.

Tax refund for eye lens surgery if not employed

Your sister can gift you €3k per annum without any tax implications for either of you. Not sure whether Dept of Social Welfare will take it into consideration for your social welfare payments. Probably best that you would split the gift of €10K to your sister over 3 to 4 years so she avoids a...

    Case study Adding to Pension

Also at your age review where your pension is invested. Target >80% investment in global equities as you've a bit of catch up to do. Ditch any automatic lifestyling that is the most common for DC pensions

    Case study Adding to Pension

You've plenty of savings so I would recommend you max out your pension contributions up to the tax relieved max including for last year (2023)
