Dublin City Centre - Car Restrictions

Of course. But that's not what I said. Most of the people with the 'anti-car' agenda have and drive cars. They are anti grid lock, anti noise, anti pollution, anti car dependency, anti over use of cars etc. etc. It's not.

No. That's not what was said.

Last comment. I think this is not true. There are alternatives in many cases but people are not willing to take them if it inconveniences them in the slightest.

Whatever about Ryan.... In answer to your first point yes - things will change. As has been said before some people will not be happy. Some businesses will lose out. Some people will be happy. Some businesses will do better. I think this thread has run it's course for me. It's very depressing...

Messing is the wrong word to use but yes I think it would be highly likely that as routes will have to change driving a car to some destinations will take longer. I think that is the whole point. Slower by car. Faster by public transport or active travel.

So you drive as you don't want to carry bags all day. Does that mean every time you buy something you walk back to Jervis and put the bag in the car?

So your questions are basically how do we do the things that we have always done without any impact to anyone at all?

Not following. You said... "you are stopping people getting to parts of the city in a car depending on where you are coming from." Can you give me an example of a scenario where someone might be stopped from getting to a destination depending on where they are coming from?

Dublin City Centre - Car Restrictions

No - you're not stopping them getting to parts of the city depending on where they come from. Whether you're coming from Finglas or Dundrum you can still go to the same places. Just making them take a different route.

I can't believe those bloody environmentalists want to visit a nice place! We can never let the city be a nice place. Not on my watch.

That would set a ridiculous precedent. Every time someone sneezes a business would then try to stop paying their rates.

Dublin City Centre - Car Restrictions

The city center is not just for retailers profit. Every decision does not have to be based on whether businesses can survive. As a previous poster has said the proposed change may be bad for some but may be good for other businesses. But also it might be good for people. People living in the...

How about the retailers just deliver the products once they have been bought? As they already do in many cases. Then we can have a nice car free city. Could this be Dublin / Limerick / Cork etc? https://www.politico.eu/article/pontevedra-city-pioneer-europe-car-free-future/

As a test we should have one day where we get rid of public transport and cycle lanes and see how businesses like it.

Proliferation of SUVs and second hand car market

It's amazing how the minority party is bullying the two parties that have been in government since the formation of the state rendering them powerless.

Child care and public transport. Back on topic - more smaller cars would be better in so many ways.

Will you mention the costs reductions implemented by the Greens and will they be reversed also?

Proliferation of SUVs and second hand car market

No one has suggested that. I suggested spending money elsewhere as opposed to on cars that are getting bigger, heavier and more expensive every year. And yes - most need cars. Just not as many or as big as they currently are.

Proliferation of SUVs and second hand car market

More cars. More pollution. More noise. More obese kids and adults. More traffic. More quality of life? Or just spend the money that is saved by not buying a second hand SUV on something worth while.
