Transfer house deposit from sterling to euro,?

We're moving the other way next month (back to the UK). We've used https://www.currencyfair.com/ for many years to transfer GBP/EUR between accounts. They are reliable, easy to use and have fast processing times as well as better rates than a bank. We'll be using them again for our own...

The safety of the new vaccine

I'm certainly no anti vaxxer generally, but I do have reservations about the speed at which this has been developed/tested. Some of the peripheral govt. activities have increased my concern, not least the immunity from prosecution granted by the U.S. for any adverse effects of administering the...

New ESB Meters being installed by KN Group.

If you register, I think you can get 3 articles free/week. Same story here https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/latest-fleet-news/electric-fleet-news/2020/09/28/electric-vehicle-home-charging-switch-off-a-last-resort not paywalled. The DT article expands the theory that there will be huge...

New ESB Meters being installed by KN Group.

But in the UK, it seems that SSE have had a great idea about a new potential use for smart meters https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/09/19/critics-smart-meters-right-along2/ Food for thought for me.

Is eir the worst company in Ireland for customer service?

I had a similar experience trying to cancel a mobile internet contract. Web chat, phone chat, physical eir shop visit, Boards.ie reps all tried, but I simply entered a Kafkaesque dystopian circle of hell with no cancellation forthcoming. One email to Carolan Lennon and it was sorted quite promptly.

Will you take your holiday if the flights are not cancelled?

The quarantine is advisory only. The statute only gives powers/sanctions in respect of filling out the "passenger locator form".

    Quarantine on visitors from abroad?

Unless I've either misread the SI or missed another SI that fills the gap, the law seems to make it a legal requirement only to fill in a "passenger locator form" indicating your whereabouts for 14 days. I can't find any reference to a 14 day quarantine period either in the statute or on the...

I live more than 5KM from Dublin Airport. Therefore I am not allowed to travel, but Ryanair not willing to acknowledge this

The DFA travel advice at https://www.dfa.ie/travel/travel-advice/ would appear to offer an even more powerful argument for Ryanair to refund you than the 5km restriction. It specifically advises no non - essential travel to Great Britain.

Prize Bonds are looking attractive alternatives to deposits

This is not the case. There is no restriction on Irish residents buying UK Premium Bonds. See https://www.nsandi.com/i-live-outside-uk-can-i-invest-with-nsi From the link: If you live outside the UK, you should check whether local regulations permit you to hold Premium Bonds. For example, the...

Could the Covid roadmap be implemented without the need for the regional travel restriction?

And that's my interpretation of the letter of the law, but it's certainly not how the authorities are dealing with it practically. Lots of motorists have been turned back from shopping journeys. I can't now find the link, but people from Naas were trying to shop in a close neighbouring town...

Health Insurance "Should I cancel my health insurance now that the private hospitals have come under state control?"

Irish Life indicating that there will be some form of premium discount to reflect the loss of private provision. It would seem logical that other insurers might follow suit...

    UK Pensions....

HMRC publish a fairly comprehensive list of what they consider to be government pensions for DTA purposes. List here: https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/international-manual/intm343040

Car hire Dublin 5 days - is full insurance good idea?

Zest provide their own excess indemnity policy for the duration of the rental. It should be equivalent to the full insurance cover offered by the rental company, subject to the exclusions that I mentioned above. These exclusions can be eliminated with the €22 top up cover or you can live with...

Car hire Dublin 5 days - is full insurance good idea?

We are trying Zest next week in Portugal. They are a broker/consolidator, and offer hires with either included full indemnity insurance from the hire co. or, if that isn't available, their own indemnity waiver policy for the hire period. Just running a 5 day hire in Dublin next week comes up...

    Nissan service cost

If it helps, Bangor last summer i10 service @ Hyundai main dealer (no more than oil, oil filter and general check over) came in at £149. Yours is a considerably bigger vehicle and you might get more bits (plugs? air filter?) at "major" service. Your quote probably sounds ballpark OK to me. Paul

    Public Services Card

My experience is that you must have a specific benefits need to apply for a PSC. We tried to get one as an easy route to proving PPS (to buy prize bonds). Appointment made, all necessary documents produced, but my wife and I were both refused a PSC. The person issuing them said that as we didn't...

    UK Driving License

My understanding is as follows: Providing the withdrawal agreement is finally passed, licences will continue to be mutually recognised during the transition period. This is currently until 31/12/2020. At that point, there is either a deal, no deal or an extension to the transition period. My...

    Home Alarm System

In our previous house we self - monitored (with the facility to add 3rd party monitors, if required) and found it quite effective. HKC system, with SMS paging facility. It was a retrofit to an existing alarm, so we used the already installed PIRs/wiring (8 zones), with new sounders...

Holding both Irish and UK driving licences

It would also be illegal in the UK https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/amendments-to-uk-law-to-ensure-compliance-with-the-third-european-commission-ec-driving-licence-directive-2006126ec and should be illegal in Ireland if they passed similar legislation to comply with the relevant...
