Possibility of mortgage after Personal Insolvency?

Hi Mousey, The other area I would suggest you look into is lodging a complaint with the Financial Services Ombudsman against Ulster Bank for incorrectly reporting your credit status - they tend to be more responsive when the FSO are on their case. Wrt your mortgage application with your...

    Getting a mortgage post bankruptcy

Hi Elmo, We went through a similar experience having been in and out bankruptcy. First thing I'd say is stay away from brokers, banks frown on applications from them. Next thing we did is get a small credit union loan to start building out credit. We then approached AIB, BOI and EBS as they...

Success! I got a mortgage 4 1/2 years after being declared bankrupt

Hi again Ciara, The debt is still listed on our ICB report but we listed it in our initial application that we were both bankrupt. Best approach when dealing with the banks is to be open and honest. If you don't disclose information from the outset and they then find it out it heightens the...

Success! I got a mortgage 4 1/2 years after being declared bankrupt

Hi Ciara, The ICB only report on the data that is sent to them by the banks so you have to deal with each on of the banks directly. Best way to get them moving is lodge a complaint with the Financial Services Ombudsman! Mike

Success! I got a mortgage 4 1/2 years after being declared bankrupt

Thanks folks. It's been a long road - to give a brief summary on our situation: Self adjudicated bankrupt in Feb 2014 Discharged in late July 2016 Bank is BOI and they did insist on the 20% deposit alright. We do get 2% back in cash back though within 45 days of draw-down. Most important...

Success! I got a mortgage 4 1/2 years after being declared bankrupt

So folks after over 2 years of applying, we got mortgage approval back in July and we'll finally be getting the keys to our new home next week. For the doubters out there (@Brendan Burgess being one - couldn't find the quote where we hadn't a hope of getting credit)........I'll be raising a...

    Getting a mortgage after bankruptcy

Hi folks, Just to give an update on our situation. As per the thread back in October, KBC seemed to react accordingly to a complaint from the FSO. Eventually updating the status on that loan to withdrawn. However my wife is now having a battle with PTSB through the FSO to get a loan updated...

    Getting a mortgage after bankruptcy

Hey GoingForward I'd say wait till Feb/Mar 2018 for BOI based on the feedback I got, but as soon as I have news from AIB I'll let you know. As a matter of interest is your credit union in Dublin? I'd happily switch our savings to a CU if it meant getting a mortgage, regardless of...

    Getting a mortgage after bankruptcy

Hi Goingforward, We were discharged in July 2016, and have been to this point arguing with some of our debtors over the status of our ICB reports which were incorrect. Here is the output of our applications: BOI - Happy to lend but asked us to wait 6-9 months after the point the items on our...

    ICB Report Post-Bankruptcy

Thanks NM The latest on my situation is that the reason the lender had held that position on the loan accounts, is because the ISI have failed to inform the lender of their position with regards to their entitled dividend from our 'bankruptcy estate'. So the ball is back in the ISI's court...

    ICB Report Post-Bankruptcy

Folks, I've been fighting a similar battle with the ISI, the ICB and one of our creditors. I got this from the ISI: "It is only unsecured debt that is written off in bankruptcy. However if the debt is a secured debt (ie a mortgage ) the secured creditors rights are unaffected - s136(2)...

    Mortgage Deposit rules after Bankruptcy

Hi Keith, Just to clarify Brendan's comment which is a valid one, the 5 years will be from point of declaration of bankruptcy, not discharge. The debt will disappear from the ICB records after 5 years, not 5 years from discharge - so effectively 3 years from now. [broken link removed] We're...
