Does small gift exemption of €3000 get added to CAT threshold?

OK, thanks. Just on the lifetime threshold. Say Group B which has a threshold of €32500 and includes siblings. If your brother gave you €100K, that means you've used up all the threshold for Group B forever regards of whether it's that brother or another member of Group B such as a sister? But...

Does small gift exemption of €3000 get added to CAT threshold?

    1. For a gift from a non-relative the CAT threshold is €16,250. Does the small gift exemption of €3000 get added to that? e.g. if I got a gift of €26,250 from a non-relative, would I pay tax on €10K or €7K? 2. Do I need to file a return (IT38) if I get a gift... a. under €3000? b. under €16,250...

Converting Share Certs to Electronic Form - does 1% Stamp Duty apply?

I was looking to convert a paper Irish Share Cert to electronic form, possibly through Davy Select. I noticed on the Revenue site, this link saying "A Stamp Duty charge of 1% arises where the transfer of Irish securities takes place electronically through the CREST electronic clearing system."...

Key Post Can I insure children on a policy without adults?

Can you get health insurance for kids without an adult as part of the policy? Anywhere I've tried you have to select one adult. I thought from a legal point of view they're obliged to at least quote you.

Getting a refund on unused cheques.

I lost my chequebook after only using 5 cheques. I rang PTSB to cancel the 35 unused cheques which they did. I then asked for a refund on the 35 x €0.50 stamp duty charges which I've already paid and they said "Yes, just bring in the 35 unused cheques and we'll give you a refund". I told them...

LPT: Exemptions for 'ghost estates': Unfinished Housing Developments sec 10.3 of Act.

Thanks. By the way I find the batch co-ordinator useful at: [broken link removed] Although you should ignore the line "Any lines with a first character ',' will be ignored by the conversion process." All the lines need to start with a comma to indicate that you don't know the station name.

LPT: Exemptions for 'ghost estates': Unfinished Housing Developments sec 10.3 of Act.

How do these list of Irish Transverse Mercator co-ordinates work. e.g. an estate in Cavan has these listed: 642234, 807821/ 642190, 807759/ 642144, 807770/ 642209, 807852/ 642234, 807821. Are these dots, which when joined make a polygon that defines the area containing the exempt houses? Some...

Electrician needed to move centrally heating timer

I have a digital timer for my gas heating that needs to be moved about 10 inches to make room for a washing machine so would need an electrician to move the timer and also patch up the hole left behind. Can anyone recommend an electrician in the Cork region for this? Hoping to get it done for...

how long does it take the ecb rate cut be passed on from ptsb

I never knew that it take another week to go through after the announcement. That means you should have your direct debit on the 15th of the month to guarantee that you only have to wait to the following month for it to be passed on e.g. August in this case rather than Sept. which is the case...

    Land/property inherited by 6 siblings?

Thanks for raising those issues. I just wonder if it's impossible to divide up land equally when there's such differences in quality, aspect, slope, drainage, and road frontage.

    Land/property inherited by 6 siblings?

Thanks. I guessed Q2 would be the same as Q1 but I included Q2 separately in case there was some law where land has to be split up between all the inheritors (as is the case in some countries) which is more possible with a land bank than with a house and small site. Siblings all get along and...

    Are mortgage calculators accurate?

Ok thanks. That makes more sense! Although my monthly payment has remained the exact same since the last interest rate fall, even though the balance and time left on the mortgage in months has changed, so you'd think that changing these 2 variables would cause the monthly payment figure to...

    Are mortgage calculators accurate?

I've tried a few different mortgage calculators e.g. http://www.myhome.ie/calculators/mortgage where I enter the original mortgage principle, the term (in years) and my current interest rate and the figure I get is less than what I'm actually paying (I adjusted for house insurance and TRS)...

Ulster Bank Ending 'Free' Banking from 1 July 2013

"Bank of Ireland was heavily criticised last year when it introduced fees of 28c per transaction for those who do not keep at least €3,000 in their account every quarter. The bank also asks its customers to make nine payments every quarter through their current account to avoid fees." Yeah...

A rememinder that today is the last working day with free fees for AIB current account holders (unless you keep €2500 in it continuosly for the 1/4). I'm doing as many online payments today as I can! I'll hopefully have a BOI account soon to avoid fees.
