    Wise international debit card

I have had the Wise card for years, and am very happy with it. I have been offered the digital card but prefer an actual card, so can't comment on that specifically. I once left my phone on a cafe table in Germany and don't wish to feel panic like that ever again. Wise possibly doesn't support...

Those with deposits in Raisin, Lightyear - anything to report, issues, all good, etc?

Yes, I found it so. Gave up after 3 tries to get BluOr to accept the form from Revenue. Have now reinvested in a country where withholding tax is not applied. It will all be declared hereof course, and Dirt applied, but less hassle.

    Flights to Majorca.....winter months.

Not cheap at €249 return but Ryanair has flights direct from Cork to Palma Majorca in March: out 4th return 11th. Cork-Palma 11th March, return 15th €68. I don't think we can be certain where Ryanair will be flying next Nov or Dec. Too unpredictable.

Where can I get information on road conditions?

Waze is better for live info only in areas where there are a lot of users. Outside of cities, not so much. My French dil was shocked when trying to navigate in Donegal that there was only one road option

pros and cons of an elderly person taking in a lodger under Rent a Room Scheme

I have had lodgers since 2018, and I am much happier leaving my house occupied than empty. I like to travel. They can give me a lift to the airport, collect me at 4am, and deal with any problems arising in the house while I'm away. For me it's a win-win situation. I didn't start renting rooms...

Those with deposits in Raisin, Lightyear - anything to report, issues, all good, etc?

Yes, but I have had so many inaccurate emails from them over the year I just took it as normal. The number of emails I have had saying they have just received my documentation! I will be very relieved to get my deposits back into in account I can trust.

Aer Lingus Credit card - pros and cons?

I recently applied for, and now have, the BOI Aer Lingus credit card, but haven't used it yet. On Saturday night I was on a late Aer Lingus flight and the announcement was made that purchases were card only, but they could not accept American Express or Bank of Ireland cards! I wasn't buying...

claiming tax credits for old medical receipts

Just a reminder before you start, that a tax refund for those medical expenses would only issue if there was tax paid by your parents in those years. It's not simply 25% of the expenses back from Revenue.

Other useful European Airlines that you have used.

I fly from Cork, and rather than head for hours in the wrong direction to Dublin, I use KLM to Schiphol flights to get me to anywhere. Obviously not as cheap as Ryanair, but if you use them frequently you can build up Miles to put towards a flight.

Ryanair changed my flight times and they don't suit me

In September 2022 I was in Carcassonne. The flight had been booked in March. Trying to book a taxi for my return flight the day before our return, I found there weren't any available. I asked my friend to look in her app, and she had a message from Ryanair saying our flight had been cancelled...

Those with deposits in Raisin, Lightyear - anything to report, issues, all good, etc?

Francois wrote: Hi Gervan, I opened an account this week with Raisin and a deposit acount with BluOr and will send some funds next week. My understanding is that the only thing that needs to be done is request a Letter of Tax Residence from Revenue online (for Latvia purposes) and e-mail it to...

Those with deposits in Raisin, Lightyear - anything to report, issues, all good, etc?

Franc1, that link is dated one month ago, so maybe the instructions have changed since I went through the rigmarole of having to post a form to Revenue, then post that back to Raisin. Who would then post it on to BluOr! That link does say the form can be emailed! I don't think I will try...

Those with deposits in Raisin, Lightyear - anything to report, issues, all good, etc?

I replied to one of these threads on Raisin investments, making it sound simple to send their forms to Revenue.ie for completion then post back to Raisin. It's not simple. I have two accounts with BluOr via Raisin and won't open any more. Back in March I submitted the forms to Revenue for each...

Is it ever a good idea to leave the family home equally between the children?

Brendan asked: Is it ever a good idea to leave the family home equally between the children? Sometimes it must be, because I was one of 6 siblings, the house being left between us, which we sold and shared equally, and my husband was one of 4 siblings who also managed to deal with that...

An Post requested copy of will

Agreed. My husband left everything to me in the will. All that was in his sole name were 3 small savings accounts in AIB. I just didn't feel emotionally up to doing the work needed at the time, and asked a solicitor to handle it. Twice I was called back to their office to sign silly little...

BluOr Paying 4.21% via Raisin for 1 year & 3.85% for 5 years Direct

Has anyone applied direct to BluOr? The information requested just to open a deposit, before I am approved as a client, includes bank IBAN and identification number. I'm somewhat nervous. I have other deposits in Latvia via Raisin, but find Raisin's customer service sadly lacking.
