    Encashment of Last Minute AVC

All correct, Conan. She's been told by a colleague that she can get back the lump sum invested within a month or two. Is that correct? She would claim the tax relief in the following year's tax returns, I think.

    Encashment of Last Minute AVC

My sister is a primary teacher hoping to take early retirement next summer. She hopes to take out a last minute AVC to make up her shortfall as she will be short about 3 years service. She will have to pay approximately €10 000 into the AVC before the end of August (her proposed retirement...

Bank legal fees for buy to let mortgage

I enquired this week at my PermanentTSB branch about getting a Buy to Let mortgage. One of the things I learned is that I would have to pay the bank's legal fees of €1,000 + VAT. Nice!!! Does anyone know if all banks do this for Buy to Let mortgages? Thanks.

Average management fees for apartment complex

We're thinking of buying an apartment. We've looked at a few on daft.ie and many of them don't state what the annual management fees are. I'm wondering what kind of annual management fees AAM members might be paying, in order to give us an idea of what to expect. We're looking in Cork city.

Lycamobile €15 per month pre pay plan

Is anybody here on the Lycamobile €15 per month plan? Does it include ALL mobile calls in Ireland? The website says "all national calls" which might be just landline calls. The deal also includes 15 GB of data per month and unlimited texts. It sounds almost too good to be true.......... If...

Public Service Pension - nett amount per fortnight.....?

This is a very good calculator also. For nett pension calculations, enter the gross pension as income and disregard the PRSI deduction (I think).

More insulation on a cavity block wall

Our house is quite exposed. Two bedrooms are at the rear of the house and are north facing. The walls are built of cavity blocks. A few years ago we insulated all of the bedrooms with insulated plasterboards but the two bedrooms at the rear are still cold. We should have used thicker...

Cancelling VAT registration - Any implications?

Thanks for the replies and the words of caution. If you have time, can you look at item 14 on this Revenue.ie list. It seems to indicate that the process is reasonably straight forward in my case, given that I have the house for more than ten years...

Cancelling VAT registration - Any implications?

I'm a PAYE worker. We bought a holiday home a number of years ago and paid VAT on the purchase price, registered for VAT, reclaimed it and make a VAT return on the rental income every year. After owning it for ten years, I can cancel my VAT registration without financial penalty. Each year I...

Teachers Flat Rate Expenses - Form 11 Return

According to the Revenue.ie website, teachers can claim €518 annually on flat rate expenses. Is this allowed at source or is it to be entered on the Form 11 return? And, if so, where on the form must it be entered? Thanks.

How Safe Are Credit Union Deposits?

Sorry for not replying, Slim, and for not making myself clear. Yes, I mean loan defaults. Probably a bigger issue for a local credit union than a bank etc.

Each member of the family has his/her own profile on our PC. Antivirus Scan Query?

Each member of the family has his/her own profile on our PC. When I do a full computer scan on when on my profile, does it scan everything on the others' profiles also or do they need to do their own individual scan? Thanks.
