AIB to announce fixed rate cuts today

I think we need to remember there are some AIB customers who can't switch as locked into trackers....we have a tracker mover mortgage and can't move or it's not worth our while moving until any rate moves below 1.75%...

Key Post It may be much cheaper than you think to break out of a fixed rate early...

Thanks Red Onion - apologies only seeing this now... BAsed on the above and your previous post, the only way AIB could charge is a fee for breaking this fixed rate (in order to make a lump sum payment) would be if they had a fixed rate lower than that which we are on, e.g. lower than 2.5??

Key Post It may be much cheaper than you think to break out of a fixed rate early...

Thanks so much for the response and that makes sense. I've also just spoken with someone in AIB who advised that you can pay a lump sum off a fixed rate mortgage and this doesn't count as breaking the fixed rate - does this sound correct?

Money Makeover, Late 30s, what next?

Thanks for all the replies! MagoJo - laughing at your response, we are most definitely not in a position to hand back the money in a cheque for travelling on their 18th birthdays! It will be much more for down the road when they might buy a house etc. I understand the sensible option is to pay...

Money Makeover, Late 30s, what next?

Yes absolutely no risk with the kids inheritance. We had been looking at the savings certs and they do seem the safest and best deal at the moment

Money Makeover, Late 30s, what next?

The €50k was very much left for the kids so we want to honor that request, even though I understand that paying off the mortgage would make more sense. We are going to try and up the raindy day fund through regular savings and look into max pension contributions for my OH

What the current process for trading up?

Hi There, We went through this same process last December with AIB so unless things have changed since then I have a very good idea of the process. We sold and bought the same day. So closed the sale of our existing property in the morning, clearing our old Tracker mortgage and then closed the...

Top Up Mortgage V. Home Improvement Loan

Thanks for your reply - the house we have purchased is old and one of the major expenses is to get it wrapped and further insulated as well as a small modest extension. The figure of €80k is ball park. We are in the fortunate position of having some of our mortgage on a tracker rate and the...
