Dollar account for a dollar cheque

Next month I'll be receiving a USD cheque. I also have an upcoming requirement to have dollars cash. I've read that it's possible to open a USD account with PTSB. Wondering if I could open that account now with 1 dollar minimum balance, lodge the cheque to it when I receive it (takes up to a...

Did anyone of you open an account with one the biggest german banks?

There is no real information about anything these days, all this is unwritten, it's never happened before, anything and everything is possible, no one can give you a definite answer or know for sure. Just putting it out there that this may not be the safe bet people think it is.

    Opening an account in Germany

word on the street is that in the event of a euro breakup accounts throughout the eurozone in euro belonging to a person with an Irish address would very likely be converted to punt nua. You can't escape this by staying in euros.

    Irish Euro vs French Euro

It looks like the whole scramble for foreign euro bank accounts is a waste of time. I think the idea that in the event of a breakup an account in France/Germany/Netherlands with an Irish address would be converted to punts is what would most likely happen. Its similar to people initially...

    Banking in the Netherlands

I'm thinking of booking a cheap flight to Amsterdam to set up some bank accounts. I don't want to walk in off the street and risk being turned down so I would like to arrange a couple of meetings in advance. I'm not sure how to go about setting these up and who to contact. My preference...

Should I use inheritance of 250K to buy first house?

Not only have you to weigh up the downside of a property purchase i.e. prices falling but also the downside of putting money in any bank given the times we're in because thats not risk free either.

Did anyone of you open an account with one the biggest german banks?

Thanks for the reply guys. Interesting. I applied online using Chrome translator, everything was filled in correctly to my knowledge. I didn't select the credit card and when I submitted the application, I was refused, I had thought it was because of my Irish address.

But for DKB you need a German address right otherwise the online application is rejected.

Rabo Ignoring ECB Rate Increase ???

True and this is more example of them taking advantage of that. But as many people have realised if Ireland goes bellyup and out of the euro then these Rabo savings will most likely become a new currency too. A lot of people however don't know this and think having money in an Irish Rabo is like...

Did anyone of you open an account with one the biggest german banks?

Is there a list of German banks that are allowing accounts to be opened by post from Ireland? I know DKB appears to be one (communication is in German though), what are the other options? For DKB I could use Google Translate and get it opened easily enough but not being able to call them up or...

Did anyone of you open an account with one the biggest german banks?

Why? Do you need to apply for the card to get the 1.65%. If you don't need a credit card do you get less interest if you don't apply for it?

    CGT and foreign currency

Thanks for that jpd. For tax purposes if you get the exchange rate for the day(e.g. from central bank website) is there a standard "exchange rate - X%" allowed in the calculations as you never get the exchange rates quoted online?

    CGT and foreign currency

Scenario: I buy a share for 1 dollar at a time when the exchange rate is 1euro = 1dollar. Some time later I sell that share for 2 dollars but now the exchange rate is 2dollars = 1euro In this scenario I made a 1 dollar gain but converting back to euro I made no gain. Am I correct in...

Re: Reid Furniture Yeah the difference in price for the same items on their UK site and in Irish stores is now massive. I presume it's not possible to order from the UK website?
