If, at Commencement Notice stage, a homeowner opts out of the requirements for statutory certification , then they do not have to register a Certificate of Compliance on Completion with the Local Authority. However, they still have to comply with all Building Regulations for their build (...

Laya Returning to Health Insurance after 5 year absence

Due to unemployment, I lapsed my Quinn / Laya policy in 2012. I am now looking to take out a new policy to give me hospital cover for possible future operations, as I have had some heart problems which may require surgery in the future, plus I may need a knee replacement at some stage. Cover...

Where can you find out where your site boundary officially is?

Land Registry maps are prepared at a large scale of 1:1000 (1mm = 1 metre), and as SOBrien states, define property, not the boundary. The Title Deeds Map, which your Solicitor holds, should give you more information. But even this may have been superceded over time, by what has happened on the...

    Sending Mobile Phone by post

Courier by sea was an option, but went to a different post office, and sent back with a wish and a prayer. UK does not have same regulations, sounds like overkill from An Post

    Sending Mobile Phone by post

I bought a mobile phone through an Amazon supplier in the uk. The phone is faulty, and I have arranged to return it. Packaged it all up and took it to the post office, but I was told An Post will not take anything with a battery in it, due to restrictions on planes. Told them that it came by...

    Laya Laya Health Protect

My family took above policy out with Laya ( then Quinn) last year. Whilst not giving health cover, it protects the waiting periods, so that you can return to a health care policy with only a 3 month waiting period. Ideal for us as two of us have long term health problems. I was about to renew...

Attic Conversion - Insulating between and over rafters

You ask, will the existing roof 4" rafters support 100mm of insulation plus plasterboard? Most likely they will, depending on the fixing, but it would be no harm to check with whoever who is advising you on upgrading the structure of the ceiling joists that will have to support the new attic floor.

    Making voluntary PRSI Contributions

I am self employed and my income was exceptionally low last year, due to various reasons. As it was below PRSI limit, I am not liable to pay Class S PRSI contributions for the year. What are the benefits of making voluntary contributions ? And how much would I pay voluntarily for this? Thanks

Irish Life Health Aviva Policy equivalent to Quinn Company Care Starter

Thanks snowyb. Still trying to decide if it is the right decision. I am reflecting on this decision not to renew over the weekend. If I do decide to renew or go with aviva or vhi now, 4 days later, & backdate cover to 01 February, would there be any problems ? Effectively , what I am saying is...

Irish Life Health Aviva Policy equivalent to Quinn Company Care Starter

Thanks for all your advice. After a lot of head scratching, we have decided not to renew, with anybody . A risk I know but 200 per month is a big chunk out of current earnings, and we will put some aside for possible future medical expenses.

Irish Life Health Aviva Policy equivalent to Quinn Company Care Starter

Thanks, snowyb, renewal date is 01/02/2012 which puts us onto 25% higher premium as you say . I don't suppose there is a way to backdate renewal to 01/01/2012 & get lower premium ? Will also spend some time on HIA website this morning, & try to find an equivalent. Don't need gp visits as we...
