I have a Halogen heater - 400W per button you can switch on and three buttons, just wondering if these are heavy on electricity?? I'm using it in one room rather than turning on heating.

There's no concept of efficiency with electric space heaters as they are all 100% efficient at turning electricity into waste energy (heat). 3 x 400W = 1.2 kW. The price per kW hr from Electric Ireland is 15c plus 13.5% VAT, so cost of a 1.2 kW device is 1.2 x 15 x 1.135 = 17c per hour (see next post o_O).

Dub_nerd you really must throw out that calculator of yours or else you had another of your "senior moments", not like you at all. :)

By my calculations its slightly over 20cents an hour at 15c per Kwh ie. (15 X 1.2) + vat @13.5% = 18 + 2.43= 20.43.

But maybe I'm having a "senior moment", it has happened before. ;-)

Gah! I knew as I was writing it that it sounded a bit cheap!

Need to trust myself and go back to doing it in my head. That spreadsheet thingie makes me lazy. :)

On a more serious note, I find it quite hard to believe the correct number too. I've seen people run up bills of dozens of euros with electric heaters and it never seems that they've run them for literally hundreds of hours. But I suppose over two months of winter it could add up that if you're not keeping track.

its a euro for 5 hours. If you were doing that every day for 2 months it would add €60 on to you bill and thats just one heater in one room...
