Investing in a Business in ireland

I am looking at investing in a sports business in Ireland. Jut looking for some advice on what I need to do if I am interested in going ahead? Is there a way to check out the company etc. Also should a solicitor go through the paperwork etc on the terms etc?

No offense, but you would be absolutely nuts not to hire an independent financial advisor (preferably an accountant) to review this business and the nature of your proposed investment. Thereafter, you want an independent solicitor to look over the legal papers for you.

Do what Techhead said first, get the company's past history. You can buy a copy of any document lodged with the CRO. I pay an annual fee to get unlimited access to this info. I'd be lost without it.

When hiring advisors, get ones with experience in buying companies. Most will be qualified accountants (don't get a financial advisor like me, we have no experience in buying companies!!), but make sure they have experience in this area. It may cost you a few quid extra as you may have to go to one of the bigger firms, but it is better to get it done right instead of having someone making a mess of things for you. Same for the solicitor you use for the documentation.
