Hi

We had health insurance a number of years ago but due to the recession we cancelled it. We are now thinking of getting it again.

We are 34 and 36 years old, non smokers and healthy only for me having a minor medical complaint that i just see the GP for maybe twice a year. We would be looking for basic hospital cover. Day to day expenses not needed as we don't really see the GP.

We have 2 children; 3 months and 15 months old and would consider putting them on the policy if the price was reasonable.

I've been looking at Glohealth Kickstart. Is this a good policy or are there other comparable / better ones out there?

Many thanks

Hi fiolor,

Welcome to AAM. Glohealth Kickstart plan is a good basic plan at a reasonable price, for 1 of you.
There is also a plan called Bloom Plan, price 570, which offers free kids under 3 yrs. So, Bloom Plan would be ideal for 1 adult in your circumstances.
The 2 children can be included on this plan for free.

As you had cover previously, the 36 yr old will get credit for those years of cover so no loading will apply.

NOTE; A 5 year waiting time will apply for hospital treatment in respect of your pre-existing minor condition. Just something to keep in mind. New customer waiting times apply as you are both starting from scratch again.

Thanks Snowyb

Will definitely go for the Bloom plan with the children free. Just wondering what is the difference with the Kick off plan and the cheaper plans with Glohealth? Looking at the Base lite / Initiate / Base plans? Or would the second adult be better off on the Kick off?

Thanks again

The Base lite/Initiate/Base Plan work on the basis that the patient has to pay the hospital bill upfront and then claim it back from Glohealth.
There is no direct settlement system with the hospitals set up with these plans. This could be very costly and inconvenient at a time when you
would need no hassle during an illness or hospital stay.

All other plans have a direct settlement system set up with the hospitals, whereby the bill is paid directly by the health insurance provider.

Regarding Bloom Plan, as far as I know, one adult has to be on this plan in order to avail of the free kids under 3 offer.

The differences between Kick Off plan and the 3 cheaper plans mentioned above, are with Kick Off you don't have to pay the hospital bill -
it is paid directly by Glohealth.
Secondly, Kick Off plan, while it just covers public hospitals, it also has a unique feature whereby you can upgrade to a private hospital plan
called 'Kick Off Upgrade' plan(price 950pa) at anytime, outside of renewal date if you need surgery in a private hospital,
with no upgrade waiting time applied.

Normally, if you switch to a higher plan, there is a 2 year waiting time until the the extra cover can be used.
NOTE; any pre-existing conditions are subject to the 5 year waiting time, but if you have no pre-existing conditions any new illnesses are fully covered, after the normal 26 week new customer waiting time is served.

This means that you only pay for a private plan, if and when you really need to use it.
This is the first plan of its type on the market, a totally new idea, worth checking out.

Thanks Snowyb for all the info. We'll definitely go for the Bloom and Kick off plans
