Driveway finish options? Most economic

Need to do something with a bad driveway, was probably gravel day one but not much loose stuff left, rest compacted and potholed.

Another load of gravel is an option but the worst one, the bit that is there is irritating as it ends up in the house stuck in runners etc, also drive is sloping.

Concrete? Not the prettiest but practical and probably not too expensive. Tarmac would be ideal of course, paving totally out the question cost wise as tarmac probably is too.

Anyone able to recommend some companies in mid West region Galway/Westmeath/North Tipp sort of area that I could try for a quote for maybe a concrete or tarmac option to see if it is totally out of the question before I resort to more gravel. Thanks.

How many meters long by how many meters wide just step it out and I will give you rough idea how much concrete you will need and cost of concrete.

Example

Say your drive is 20mX5m=100m2
100X.150m thickness of concrete (6inches)=15cubic m of concrete
15X 80 euro per cubic meter=1200 euro for the concrete.

You can opt for dye in concrete or have the concrete imprinted to look like cobblelock. Have a look on Done Deal etc.

Thanks a mil but I'm not at the house at the moment, will try and get someone to do it for me in next few days.

If you Google, "Mooney-Kirrane", they will give you a price and options. Good fella's, they do a great job and more than likely will have done work in your area or nearby.

Ya +1 on monney and kirwane great rep but hard to get but worth waiting for ,plenty cowboys going around doing that sort of work I still think concrete done right ,strong mix 35 or 40 Newton nice finish ,concrete should be snow white after a few weeks if done right. Make sure they put in expansion joints

I kind of like the idea of concrete from a colour point of view, don't really like the darkness of tarmac. I love nice gravel but it's a pain, ruined my kitchen floors by getting stuck in runners and damaging floor when walked on, all little cuts in it.

I'm wondering if it is the size/shape of the gravel rather than the actual gravel chips that is the issue?
We've had gravel for the past year and have no problems whatsoever with it coming into the house. The chips are about 25mm long, 10mm across and are oblong in shape.

It's not even just the coming into the house and car actually that I think would be an issue, there is a slope on the driveway which I just can't see being a good plan with gravel.

Had our large driveway done in coloured, patterned concrete about 7 or 8 years ago and it is still a superb job. It goes right around the house makes a lovely patio area at the back and a windy path down the garden. As we live on a corner site there's a good view of it to passers by. People knocked on the door to ask who did the job, many others just helped themselves to a good look. As a result our builder did about six similar jobs in the area.

Be careful with the colour you use and make sure never to put salt on it to melt the snow.
Unfortunately I live on the opposite side of the country so there is no point recommending a builder

I've done similar Blacksheep but it was around 2009 and it now needs to be cleaned and re-sealed/coloured again. This company, "Spraytech Cleaning" has come up a few times and I wonder has anyone used them? I'd love to get some reviews before I contact them. I've looked at their website but would prefer if some feedback could be given by someone who has availed of their services. Thanks.
