Limerick for the weekend

I'm heading to Limerick for the weekend, leaving Dublin around 10 tomorrow morning, with 3 kids (13, 12 & 6).
The plan is to go to Bunratty Castle and possibly Lahinch on Saturday and the Cliffs of Moher and Ailwee Caves on Sunday. Can anyone suggest anywhere else to go?

I think you're hitting the best spots with a family of that age. I was going to suggest the Hunt Museum and Lough Gur but maybe the kids are too young to appreciate. King John's Castle is good too but you already have Bunratty Castle on the list.
I hope you spend some time in Limerick City itself.

A bit of a different suggestion, Irish Seed Savers are down in Scariff in Clare .

Personally I would swop Bunratty for King Johns Castle- there is a great treasure hunt map that kids get, they have to go all around the castle trying to find things, there are people who will give hints, it is quite difficult, but kids love it and at the end they get a prize ( an eraser or pencil but apparently brilliant).

And Limerick has some really good restaurants and a beautiful walk along the shannon.

Rollerskating is my idea of hell on earth, it is dark inside, with flashing strobe lights and loud, loud disco music. Plus the added bonus of potential maiming from skates, yes of course kids love it, bring earplugs if you go.

Check the tides if you are going to Lahinch, if tide is in, no beach. For beach, I prefer Kilkee, there are more restaurants and a beautiful cliff walk, but it is out of your way.

I wouldn't go to seedsavers, too far out of your way, and unless there is a fete on, maybe not worth that much of a side trip.

If you haven't been to Aillwee before, try to go to the birds of prey show, and get the kids to sit near the front, they may be able to take part and hold one of the birds. The show is good.

Aillwee is quite far north, you could go to Turoe pet farm, if the kids like animals, it's a good one where you can actually feed them. There is also a playground and a very large bouncy castle indoors.

Did Bunratty on Saturday when we arrived as it's only 10 minutes from the Hotel. We stayed in the Radisson Blu. Very nice but the access to the pool for kids are very restricted which is a real shame. It would probably put me off staying there again.

Went to Cliffs of Moher and drove around the Burren on Sunday. Kids were too tired for the Aillwee Caves when was a disappointment for me but I find it's always better to do a little bit too little than a little too much with kids.


Went Surfing at Lahinch yesterday. Great fun but we were all rubbish as it.
