Length of time for Grant of Probate

My father in law died recently. My husband is executor of the will. The estate is very straightforward. Just one bank account to be divided between the siblings.
The solicitor has applied for grant of probate.
How long will the grant of probate take to come through ?
Also, can anyone give me an estimate of the legal fees for what I would say is a straightforward case ?
Thanks.

As the executor has appointed a solicitor, the query should be addressed to the solicitor.

The solicitor is obliged to provide an estimate or quote for fees before commencing the work. If they have not done so, the executor should ask for that now.

Equally, you could ring around a couple of local firms and ask what they would charge.

I'm sure that's not true.

My father in law died last year. Simple will - one house and a few quid to be divided between siblings. The solicitor charged 10k. And the estate agent 9k. Fairly steep fees I thought. The solicitor was a family friend!

Was that the solicitors fee for handling both the application for Grant of Probate and also the sale of the house? Also, how long from the date of application for GOP to granting of GOP ? Your solicitor may have worked very diligently to get the application into the Probate Office as soon as possible after your father in law died , then got the appointment with the Probate Office quickly and then may have kept the pressure on to get GOP asap. If your solicitor got GOP quickly then 10k was worth it. Did you put the house up for sale before GOP was granted? Regarding the Estate Agent fees, they depend on the sale price of the house.

Who is the executor? It is his responsibility to ensure things are done correctly and to price the work of any professional assistance needed.

I'm going to do probate myself. I'm not a solicitor. I know the forms are a bit involved, but is there any serious pitfall I haven't thought about?

(btw, I did get a quote, less than half 10k)
