Household charge - only existed for one year - 2012

This charge of €100 per unit has been replaced by the new property tax. It only existed for the year 2012. If you didn't pay it, the charge is doubled to €200 and will be added to the property tax.

Does anyone have any experience of how this was added to the LPT?
 
NPPR 2012 - €200 per unit not per property. 2 flats in one property = 2 charges.

Liability date is 31st March, 2013. You can pay up to the 30th June, 2013. After that there are serious penalties.

NOTE: It is considered by some to be tax deductable. I will be backdating a claim on this, this year. Revenue never did come back with full clarify on it.

To the two posters on AAM in the last month that claims never to have heard of the NPPR, here it is in black and white.

This is the last year it's due.

Local Property Tax. 2 flats in one property = 1 charge. Ditto for granny flats. 2 flats with separate legal title in the same block of flats would be 2 charges

This was my understanding too - 1 title equals one charge - but can't find this on revenue website.

The property in question was purchased in 2013 - paid one stamp duty but is in multiple units(would not be possible to sell separately until management company set up and separate legal titles registered for the individual units). Paid 5 NPPR charges in 2013 but only 1 LPT charge. I thought this was correct, but now not so sure.

Anybody have a link to revenue guidelines/legislation confirming this?

It shows up in your LPT record as Household Charge arrears, even in some cases where the charge was already paid. Tax payers should check their LPT record to ensure paid charges are not appearing as o/s in error. If the HC was paid prior to 01.07.2013, request an email receipt from them(1890-357357 or 01-4853695) and email to [email protected].

HHC PAYMENT POST JUNE 30th

Found it accidently on my LPT a/c couple of weeks ago no notifacation from revenue by post or Ros etc. Miscalculated my last minute protest payment at the end of June and couldn't pay July 1st. Payment can be one single payment card /cheque or at source ala the LPT. It is €200 by Dec 31 2013 ,this was from contact with the revenue head office by phone ,so in my case €20 per week for last ten weeks of this tax year . This suggests that accruals ,interest and fines may follow in the new year.

This Surcharge is calculated at 10% of the Income Tax liability.

The Surcharge is in addition to the LPT liability itself plus interest that may arise for late payment.

LPT

The budget in 2015 proposes deferring the 2016 increase to 2019. Originally the tax was to be based on a valuation in 2013 to last 4 years only.

Some councils are reducing the bills, this is going to make life very complicated with many different rates all over the country.

Note that revenue is now linking this website to the Household charge (the one that laste one year only and is going to come back to haunt some of you) Also heard they will link it to the much more onerous and dreaded NPPR soon. Revenue LPT website is quite good and easy to use. Clear to understand what is going on as well.

Hard to believe but their website is even worse than before. If you even go there to print out a tenancy it creates a new line for the same tenancy, the girl in teh office told me it's not unheard of for people to have 15 lines for one tenancy. I asked does she spend much of her day on the phone to people like me who cannot understand their website and the answer is yes. So landlords, that's what our money is being spent on, phone staff to help with website queries for a badly designed and costly website.

More proof that LPT is a rate

Dr Thornhill made several recommendations, among them a suggestion that LPT should be much more closely aligned with the budgeting process in local government.

He even went so far as to suggest that the tax be renamed the “Local Council Tax” (LCT instead of LPT) to emphasise that it is a tax raised to pay for local council services.
